Gloomhaven
Not a writing-related post, but some friends and I just finished our first game of Gloomhaven.
If you don’t know what Gloomhaven is, it’s a massive cooperative campiagn dungeon-crawl style board game, but heavy with thematic elements in a persistent world. The design is “hard core” in that you’re pretty much only supposed to play it once on campaign mode, tearing up cards and permanently marking up the game board.
Of course, it’s $100 plus dollar game, so I wasn’t about to go that far. But the game itself was a ton of fun. Complicated, but not too terrible as these sorts of things go. Lots of strategy. Lots of fun. We barely scraped out a win on the first scenario, down to one player standing and almost out of resources. Which, all things considered, is probably how you want the game to go. We made mistakes along the way, of course, but all in all it was a great experience.
If you’re looking for a fun tabletop boardgame to play with friends, I’d highly recommend it.
